Custom-designed and built in 1992,
Harrop House sleeps six, with three bedrooms and two baths.
One bedroom with a double bed, and
a bathroom with shower are on the ground floor. On the second floor,
two bedrooms (one with bunk beds,
one with queen size bed) share a sitting area and bathroom with tub/shower.
The house is fully furnished including
linens, dishes, washer/dryer, and features an open-plan living/ dining/kitchen
area
with cathedral ceiling, large arched
windows with stunning mountain views, and covered porch for skywatching.
It faces the West Arm Wilderness
Park, containing some of the last untouched wilderness in British Columbia.

Harrop House is situated on eight
acres fronting Kootenay Lake, with private forest, sandy beaches, and salmon-
spawning creek. Deer, wild turkeys
and bald eagles, to mention only a few, pass through on occasion.
Our beaches are reached by a short
walk through the woods between the house and the shoreline.

Harrop House is fifteen miles and
a 5-minute ferry ride from Nelson, BC, listed as #5 in "The 100 Best Art
Towns
in America" by John Villani. In
1997, Esquire Magazine called Nelson "the next New-Age Nirvana." There
are good
restaurants, a movie theater and
heritage theater which presents plays and live music, many art galleries
and a museum,
three supermarketsand a health food
store as well as public tennis courts, historic architecture and good shopping.
Within a twenty-five mile radius,
are many beautiful golf courses, including a world-class eighteen-hole
course
on the east side of the main lake,
called Kokanee Springs.
Harrop House is not far from Whitewater
Ski Area, where there are virtually no lines for the lifts. "Ski Canada"
rated Whitewateras Best Deeps, Best
Bowls and Best Glades. "Powder Magazine" declared it "one of the best
powder mountains on the continent".
The Harrop-Procter area is an alluvial fan, perfect for cross-country skiing
with gentle land gradients paralleling
the lakeshore for miles.
In the Kootenays, there are many
great hikes, by the shoreline or in the mountains, to alpine lakes and
stunning views.
Nearby Cody Caves offers guided
tours, and the ghost town of Sandon is kept alive for historic interest.
Ascend
Idaho Peak for its breathtaking
views and wildflower meadows, or meander through the idyllic Slocan Valley.
You can
soak in the hot springsat Ainsworth,
hunt mushrooms, bird-watch, or just kick back on the porch and listen to
Mill Creek rushing past.In late
August, you can even watch the kokanee, a fresh-water salmon that turns
bright red as it returns there to
spawn.

Both Nelson and the community of
Harrop are located on the south side of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake,
but the highway is on the north
shore, so the area is accessible only by ferry. The Harrop ferry is free,
runs on-demand
24 hours a day and carries fifteen
cars. From the dock, there is only one main road, which runs five miles
to the
village of Procter and ends at the
shore of the main body of Kootenay Lake. This makes the area very quiet
and private,
but still accessibleto the main
road and the other towns nearby. The property is at lake level on the West
Arm of
Kootenay Lake where the weather
is milder than almost anywhere in Canada.

GUEST TESTIMONIALS
"Our vacation was wonderful! We did
so much hiking, and also took a 1/2 day horseback ride
into the mountains. Seeing Kootenay
glacier from the other side of the mountain was the best hike
we've ever taken, with the most
fantastic scenery. We encountered only two other people
the whole time we were up there.
We hope to be back next year. Thank you for having such a
wonderful home. It's everything
a vacationer could ever want." Virginia Thomas, San Diego, CA
"The finest image of our entire vacation
is consistent for all of our family, even our six-year-old boy--
it's the impact of opening the car
door when we arrived and hearing the symphony of crickets.
We were privileged to beable to
follow antics of the family of osprey nesting near the ferry. Eagles perched
on nearby trees, and deer watched
as we played badminton in the front yard. Thanks for allowing us access
to your bit of paradise." --
Doug and Judy Eley, Calgary, AB
"Our past week at Harrop house was
wonderful!! Our kids had a blast. We caught a few salmon
right in front of the house. We
saw a lot of deer, osprey, and a few bald eagles, and the everyday views
of
Kootney Lake and the mountains were
spectacular. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Thanks for
allowing us to rent your home. Hopefully
we'll be back in the near future." -- Al Hicks, Inverness, CA
"Our time at Harrop House flew by,

more.

"We're now back in England, trying
to return to normal. After our 3+ weeks in Canada, this is
proving very difficult! We had a
wonderful holiday and the highlight was our stay in your lovely house.
We really enjoyed just relaxing
on the deck or in the hammock, thinking of -- well, nothing much.
Totally rewarding. We'll be back!"
